Typographic Elephant by Lish-55
Why did you choose this as your graphic design example?
I chose this example because it has a powerful message behind it. I helps people take into consideration of which animals are going extinct due to deforestation and the effects extinction can have on an ecosystem.
The type of visual communication represented through this image is one that tries to create an emotional reaction out of someone and attempt them to make a change.
What is the context in which the design appeared?
The context of this image is putting both positive and negative facts about elephants and emphasize the positives in a larger font because these facts are slowly drifting away. The creator intentionally put all of this information in the shape of the elephant to emphasize and make it simpler for the viewer to understand.
The purpose of this design is to help people take action and help elephants thrive again. They intentionally left a scanner and a motivational message at the bottom all for this purpose.
What is the communication objective of the design?
The objective of this design is to create a simple message for people to understand the impact of extinction all for human convenience. They specifically target elephants through design because they may overlooked as a species that might require corporation to continue to live.
The message that the image is trying to achieve is that humans overtime have dramatically affected elephants’ overall population and living space.
The creators of this message have motivation to take action for the rights of animals. They are people that care about animals beyond the level of an everyday person. They want to use this image to help the viewer understand what elephants and other species have to go through all for human convenience. These people want to create something that someone won’t overlook and maybe motivate someone to help support the cause.
The intended audience of this image are to the people that are destroyed the elephants living space and allowing their population to decline. The other targeted audience is people who are not already informed about how animal populations are dropping quickly.
How does the typography contribute to the message and the purpose of the design?
Compared to an ordinary image it allows the viewer to be more tempted to interact more with the image and gain the knowledge the creator hoped for.
The only noticeable way that the image breaks traditional rules is due to the fact that some of the words are difficult to read. This is understandable because the size and placement of these words were the only way to create the shape of the elephant.
The illustrators use of size to emphasize more important issues on a dark black background and using these words into the shape of an elephant is smart. They did this on purpose because they know once someone looks at the image they will know right away what the intended message is.
The typography within the image is placed nicely enough that someone will be drawn in and will most likely feel bad and get a better understanding of the issue and possibly take action for the cause.
